Paper, Boards, Pads & Journals
- Dry Media (Graphite, Charcoal, Pastels): Choose Sketch Paper (70-130 gsm) for practice, and Drawing Paper (120-200 gsm) for finished pieces. These papers have a "tooth" (texture) that grips pigment.
- Wet Media (Watercolor, Gouache, Ink): Choose Watercolor Paper (\(300 \text{ gsm / 140 \text{ lb}}\) or higher). It is thick, highly absorbent, and prevents buckling.
- Hot Pressed: Smooth finish, perfect for detailed ink and fine lines.
- Cold Pressed: Textured finish, ideal for watercolor washes.
- Versatile Media (Mixed Media Paper): Generally around 200-300 gsm, these hybrid sheets are formulated to handle light water washes, markers, and pencils without tearing or blotching.
- Bristol Board: A stiff, multi-ply board. Smooth surfaces are excellent for technical pens and markers, while vellum surfaces are great for colored pencils and graphite.
- Illustration Board: Features high-quality mounting board with paper facing. It is heavily resistant to warping and is widely used for finished professional paintings, architectural designs, and heavy-ink work.
- Sketchbooks: Available in hardbound or wire-bound formats. Lighter options (around 150 gsm) are great for everyday travel and line work, while heavier sketchbooks handle light washes and wet media wonderfully.
- Art Journals: Used for scrapbooking, mixed media, and personal creativity. Often feature heavyweight paper or black pages to allow for collages, acrylics, and vivid pigment displays.
